The Evolution of ASIO Gear: Introducing RAPX Camo
After the success of RAPTOR CAMO®—our original pattern inspired by the stealth of the Great Horned Owl—we started thinking bigger.
Joe Miles, ASIO’s founder, has always believed that nature has the answers. RAPTOR was born from watching an owl disappear into a treestand. Its ability to stay hidden while sitting still in the trees made it the perfect pattern for elevated hunting.
But we started asking—what about the ground?
Bowhunters don’t always hunt from above. Whether you’re slipping through brush or setting up at eye level, you need a pattern that disappears into your surroundings. So we turned our attention to the animals that do it best—bobcats, coyotes, and mountain lions.
These ground predators have mastered the art of staying hidden. They move low, slow, and with purpose—never seen until it’s too late. Their natural camouflage isn’t flashy. It’s quiet. Subtle. Deadly. And it works, no matter the season or terrain.
That’s where RAPX began.
We studied the look and movement of these predators and worked closely with our team to bring it to life. We tested every version in the woods—in grass, on rock, in the timber. We’d tweak it, test again, and keep refining until it finally disappeared into every environment we put it in.
And the results surprised us. RAPX didn’t just work on the ground—it crushed in the trees, too. The shapes and tones built for ground cover blended perfectly in a treestand. It was versatile, effective, and built for real-world whitetail hunters.
So why the name RAPX?
Like ASIO (named after the owl), we pulled from Latin. The word rapax means predator—and that’s exactly what this camo was built around. We dropped the “A” and gave it a sharper edge: RAPX (pronounced RAP-EX).
In the end, this wasn’t just about launching a new pattern. It was about giving serious bowhunters every advantage—on the ground, in the trees, and in every season.
