Part 1: The importance of “Why”

Mission Whitetail is a podcast designed to help whitetail bowhunters improve their game.  We are a product-neutral podcast with no sponsors or free gear; we offer ideas on gear with non-biased reviews and results.  We will be talking with experts in the areas that truly make a difference in chasing these incredible animals: scent control, whitetail eyesight, bow set ups, broadhead choices, arrow set up, tree stands, trail cams cell/standard, access to hunting property and how to get it, and much much more.  We will have the absolute best whitetail hunters in North America on to discuss their setups, mindset, and strategy for targeting specific deer and how they go about moving in and dealing with adversity. Mission Whitetail is just that - put a Mission plan in place to go out and kill these mature deer.

Two of the biggest and most important things guys need to focus on are mindset and obsessing over every little detail on things they can control.  Asking the “why” in everything they do whitetail related. The importance of this cannot be understated.  The Preparation, Planning, and Strategy are vital to whitetail success.

What do we mean by asking the “why” for mindset? When you head into the woods this fall, why are you taking the bow you are taking?  Why are you taking the stand you are taking? Why are you hunting this particular property? Why are you hunting on this particular wind? You need to understand and have a plan in place. To answer the above questions, it should look something like this:

I am shooting a Mathews V3X because they are super easy to tune, hold their tune, have the most dynamic efficiency of any bow and are the quietest with these efficiencies.  I am taking a Novix, Helo stand because it is safe, light and compact, super easy to hang, has an offset bracket to get in almost any tree, and it’s dead quiet for easy mobile hunting when needed.  I am hunting this 15-acre track because it is a great bedding area that only I have access to, and it holds the caliber deer I am after. I need a north wind to access my transition zone between the hardwoods and the cutover, so the deer won’t be able to smell me while on stand or during ingress and egress.

This is how micro we get with Mission Whitetail. Whether you are hunting your home farm or traveling across the country, we will be exploring all the tactics and planning that goes in to bowhunting these awesome creatures.

I need to really start taking my “whys” more seriously.

I spent 8 hours on the tractor going back over and over your podcast. Outstanding subjects and depth without the sponsor slant. Looking forward to many more!
