ASIO Gear — Midweight Sherpa Jacket FAQ

Straight answers

Before you buy it

01What temperature is this actually good for?

20 to 50 degrees as your outer layer, which covers the bulk of October and November for most of the country.

Warmer than 50 and you'll be carrying it more than wearing it — that's Midweight Puffy weather. Below 20 it still works with heavyweight baselayers under it, but if most of your season is spent in the teens, buy the Heavyweight Hooded instead and don't look back.

02How should I size it if I'm layering underneath?

It's cut true to size and will fit a baselayer and a midlayer underneath just fine. If you're planning to run more than that, size up.

And if you get it, put your whole setup on, and it's too tight or too big — we'll send you a prepaid label to exchange it. You shouldn't have to guess at this from a size chart.

03Is it quiet enough to draw on a deer at fifteen yards?

That's the whole reason it's built the way it is. The sherpa face has no hard shell over it to crinkle, and the windproof layer is bonded inside where it can't make noise against itself.

Stillness hunting is what we build for. A jacket that's silent while you sit but announces you on the draw has failed at the only moment that counts.

04Will it keep me dry in the rain?

In a light rain, you'll be fine. In a monsoon, you want a true rain jacket over it — and we're not going to pretend otherwise.

Trying to make one jacket do both jobs is how you end up with something that's mediocre at each.

05What goes under it in late November?

In the 30s and 40s, a midweight baselayer and the Midweight Hoodie underneath will have you covered all day.

Into the twenties or teens, step up to heavyweight baselayers and consider running a vest or the Midweight Puffy under the Sherpa for the extra insulation. The outer layer stays the same — you're building underneath it.
