ASIO Gear — Heavyweight Hooded Jacket FAQ

Straight answers

Before you buy it

01What temperature is this actually good for?

20 degrees and down. This is the most insulation in the line — 180g PrimaLoft® Gold, fully windproof — and it's built for the sits where staying put is the whole strategy.

Add heavyweight baselayers and it carries into the teens and below. With appropriate layers, guys have hunted this setup through 30 below wind chill and stayed in the tree.

If most of your season lands in the 30s and 40s, this is more jacket than you need. Buy the Midweight Sherpa and put it to work for four months instead.

02How should I size it if I'm layering underneath?

Order your typical jacket size. This one is already cut assuming you'll have layers under it, so the room is built in.

And if you get it, put your whole setup on, and it's too tight or too big — we'll send you a prepaid label to exchange it. You shouldn't have to guess at this from a size chart.

03Can I actually draw my bow in it?

Yes. That's the part we spent the most time on. The insulation is where you need the heat and the cut is trim through the arm and shoulder, so the string comes back to the same anchor you shot all summer.

Warmth that costs you the shot isn't warmth. It's a coat.

04What goes under it in the teens and below?

Heavyweight baselayers first — that's the single biggest change you can make once you're below twenty, and it happens against your skin, not on the outside.

From there, add a vest or the Midweight Puffy underneath for more insulation. The jacket stays the same; you're building under it.

05Do I need the Heavyweight Bib too?

If you're sitting all day in single digits, yes. Your legs go still for hours and there's no amount of jacket that makes up for what's happening below your waist.

For shorter late-season sits, or if you're already running heavyweight baselayers under insulated pants, the jacket alone will get you there. Start with the jacket, add the bib when the sits get longer.
